Fine art printers Cook & Becker (http://www.candb.com) give a behind-the-scenes look at how a giclee print or lithography can be mounted on a Dibond panel behind acrylic glass. The museum-standard for fine art photography and digital art.

Pictures That Pop

Brian Pernicone March 3, 2015

When I release the shutter on my camera, I have a very specific vision of the image I'm trying to create. And when I capture an image I'm proud of, the next step is bringing it to life through various printing and mounting processes so the image hanging on the wall matches the vision I had when I captured it.

Though tourists no longer flock to the docks of Galilee, R.I., during the foul winter weather, signs advertising lobsters for sale right off the boat remain on display for the few who may venture to the harbor during the cold New England winter.

Foul Weather Photography Fun

Brian Pernicone January 6, 2015

Photographers are accustomed to aiming for the sweet spot of the "Golden Hour" - the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset - to make their best photos. The light is gorgeous and makes your subjects pop.

And while shooting under ideal conditions can often lead to the best photographs, it's important to remember never to pass up an opportunity, even if the conditions aren't exactly favorable.

So long 2014

Brian Pernicone December 31, 2014

As the sun sets on 2014, it's been fun going through my archives and thinking about all that has happened during past year. This year has been an exciting time for Pernicone Photography, both personally and professionally.

Technology and Technique

Brian Pernicone November 25, 2014

I'm a gadget guy, always have been. I love the latest and greatest tech with all the bells and whistles, even if I end up never using half of them. So it's easy sometimes to look at all the amazing photography gear available and think, "Wow, I could make such a better photograph if I had just had Lens X or Lighting Y."

A surfer finds a righteous wave with a heavenly glow during a recent swell in Narragansett, R.I.

Action on the water

Brian Pernicone October 21, 2014

The surf was up this weekend in Narragansett, R.I., and I knew there would be a good opportunity to get some action shots of the local wave riders. I headed out to an easily accessible surf spot with one of the better breaks in the area hoping to get some nice shots in the Golden Hour.

Under the Sparkling Sky

Brian Pernicone September 29, 2014

Summer time in New England can't be beat when it comes to the weather, and there are countless opportunities to create amazing photographs. But as the summer gives way to fall and the humidity gives way to crisp air, new opportunities arise on land, sea and sky.

Serenity

Brian Pernicone September 24, 2014

Serenity. Silence. Peace. Isolation. Any or all of these words could describe this image of a steel canoe as it sits apparently motionless on the glassy waters of a salt pond. The word one chooses depends, of course, upon the viewer's perspective.

Personality of Place

Brian Pernicone August 19, 2014

The wide eyes of a toddler or the cracked, craggy skin of an old fisherman can both tell a story about the person being captured in a portrait. Letting the subject's personality emerge through the image is essential to portrait photography, but it also applies to other disciplines of photography, such as nature, landscape and street photography.

Ah, the glamour

Brian Pernicone August 10, 2014

Evidence that the life of a photographer is not all glamour and fashion models. Sometimes it's dumpsters and garbage trucks.

At least the photo I captured here didn't capture the stink, too!

Active Anticipation

Brian Pernicone August 7, 2014

"Write what you know" is a well-known maxim encouraging authors to draw upon their experience to infuse their writing with authenticity. "Shoot what you know" could be considered an equally important bit of advice for photographers.

Winging it

Brian Pernicone July 30, 2014

We've all done it. We've all bought a fancy new electronic device and then tossed the instruction manual aside to start playing with it. Inevitably, we get comfortable using the most common features and end up forgetting about the rest.

Out of Darkness

Brian Pernicone July 21, 2014

Light and dark, highlight and shadow. They're the building blocks of any great image, and they also present some of the greatest challenges to a photographer when they stand in stark contrast to each other.

Playing With Light

Brian Pernicone July 7, 2014

When I go out shooting photographs, I try to have a shot in mind that I want to create before I leave the house. It helps give me focus and make the most efficient use of my time. That said, one of the first lessons I learned about photography way back in the 6th grade was to keep your eyes open and "work the scene."

Honeymoon

Brian Pernicone June 26, 2014
